Hempstead Harbor, Harbor Links Golf Course, Sea Cliff, Long Island Sound, Westchester and even Rockland County on a clear day. It’s a shame that this once beautiful oasis is no more.

KIDS MYTHICAL CREATURES WORKSHOP Port Washington 4/7 

The Sands Point Preserve will host a family-friendly afternoon of live music as the Northwinds Symphonic Band presents its annual spring concert, &ldquo;Concert Band Classics and Virtuoso Artistry,&rdquo; on Sunday, April 19, at 3 p.m.
Under the direction of conductors Helen P. Bauer and Concetta Stevens, the program features Twilight in Central Park, a jazz ballad showcasing flugelhorn soloist Matt Deegan. Jessica Palen (piccolo) and Nicoletta Kenny (euphonium) perform the lighthearted polka, The Elephant and the Flea, while percussionist Ryan Mitchell demonstrates his marimba virtuosity with the whimsical Fiddle Faddle. The mini concerto Divertimento for Tuba and Band highlights the versatility of tubist Dan Yankow. And Satchmo!, a tribute to Louis Armstrong, features trumpet solos by Michael Palczewski and Caitlin Mallon. 
The full ensemble will demonstrate its artistry through beloved concert band repertoire, including John Barnes Chance&rsquo;s Variations on a Korean Folk Song, inspired by the traditional melody Arirang; the powerful Pilgrim&rsquo;s Chorus from Richard Wagner&rsquo;s Tannh&auml;user; and Gustav Holst&rsquo;s First Suite in E-flat, a foundational work for concert band. Additional works by Richard Strauss and Paul Murtha round out the program.
The performance will include one hour of music, with a 15-minute intermission. Tickets are $10 per person, and parking is $15 for non-members. Tickets are available on the day of the performance, cash at the door, or by credit card at the Welcome Center.

The morning of May 9th will be a busy one at Baxter’s Pond!&nbsp; Please join the Baxter's Pond Foundation (BPF)&nbsp;at 9 am for a Clean Up Event to pick up litter, do some planting, and make our park beautiful. All ages welcome!&nbsp;&nbsp;Meet at the flagpole in comfortable clothing; gloves and garbage bags provided. At 10 am, the native-landscaping professionals from Spadefoot Design &amp; Construction will provide volunteers with hands-on training in how to maintain the new native plantings at Baxter’s Pond while keeping invasives from making a comeback.
