The Music Man is a Tony Award-winning Broadway musical that was made into an Academy Award winning film starring Robert Preston and Shirley Jones. It is considered to be one of the classics of musical theater. The story follows fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys' band , this, despite the fact that he doesn't know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, the librarian. The score is filled with wonderful tunes including "76 Trombones", "Being in Love", "Till There Was You", "Wells Fargo Wagon", and the showstopper "You Got Trouble". Director Matt DeLuca states “The Music Man is a masterpiece. It is quintessential musical theater and you won’t want to miss this production!”

When an actor had to drop out of The Music Man, actor Jeff Grossman (Mayor Shinn) had the perfect actor in mind to join the cast to play Marcellus (Harold Hill’s comedic shtick sidekick). Matt Kaplan and Jeff Grossman grew up in Fair Lawn, New Jersey and have been friends since junior high school. When they attended Fair Lawn High School, they acted together in the Fair Lawn High School Drama Club, The Masques. Despite being Jersey boys, they both ended up in Long Island -- with Jeff in Port Washington and Matt in North Merrick. In the Music Man, they are now reuniting on stage after a more-than-25 year hiatus!
Don’t miss the opportunity to see local Port Washington actors in different roles: Jon Brooks as Harold Hill, Jeff Grossman as Mayor Shinn, Caryn Ronis as Eulalie Shinn, Dave Franklin as Jacey Squires and many more of all ages. And watch for a special surprise cameo from Rabbi Zeplowitz!
