Dating App Meetups Gone Wrong: Men Beaten, Robbed in Port Washington
One man suffered a fractured skull and another needed stitches in his head following the two separate assaults last week, police say.

Three local teens were arrested after police say they assaulted and robbed two men who came to Port Washington to meet a woman they corresponded with on a dating app during two separate incidents last week.
According to Port Washington Police, the first man came to Port Washington on Wednesday, Nov. 30 and met up with the woman on Charles Avenue. After they met, the man was struck by another man in the head with a baseball bat and was then beaten with the bat after being knocked to the ground, police say.
The attackers fled the scene after stealing the man’s property, police say. The man was taken to North Shore Plainview Hospital in a private vehicle to be treated for numerous contusions on his body. He received 60 stitches in his head.

The man responded to Port Washington Police Headquarters the evening of Thursday, Dec. 1 to report the incident.
Later that night, another man was attacked after meeting the same woman on the same dating app, police say.

The second man met the woman on Charles Avenue at 10:30 p.m. when he was approached by several men and struck in the head with a baseball bat. The attackers then began beating him with multiple baseball bats, stole his cellphone and fled the scene, police say.
The injured man walked down to the Middleneck Road area where a passerby called police. The man was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for a fractured skull, a broken nose and multiple other injuries, police say.
A police investigation led to the arrest of three Port Washington teens. Amaia Thompson, 16, was the alleged female who met with the men. Melvin Whitehead, 17, and a 15-year-old male juvenile were also arrested. All three were charged with first-degree robbery and first-degree gang assault.
