16 Paul D. Schreiber Students Recognized in 2020-21 National Merit Scholarship Program

Port Washington, New York (September 9, 2020)—Port Washington Union Free School District (PWUFSD) announced today that an elite group of 16 students from Paul D. Schreiber High School were named semifinalists in the 66th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. This notable achievement is a reflection of the students’ high scores on the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), an initial screen for program entrants.
"It is refreshing and inspiring to note that even during these unique, difficult and unnerving times our Schreiber students still find a way to achieve at the highest of levels,” said Dr. Ira Pernick, Principal of Paul D. Schreiber High School. “These students are a wonderful reminder that despite the radical changes in their lives, and our world, success is still possible. Congratulations to all semifinalists."
Schreiber’s semifinalists this year are Shayne Bersin, Isaac Goldstein, Ryan Kessler, Mia Kurta, Jimin Lee, Noah Loewy, Rajen Parekh, Samantha Radinsky, Daniel Ruskin, Alexandra Salzman, Jacob Schorr, Nathaniel Senders, Gavin Shaub, Jeffrey Sung, Erik Tang, Avery VonRoeschlaub. In order to be considered to advance in the program as a finalist, each semifinalist will complete a scholarship application, compose a detailed essay and receive a recommendation from a high school official. In February, approximately 15,000 semifinalists will be notified if they have been selected as finalists.
