Enjoy Family Forest-Themed Yoga at Sands Point Preserve

An early celebration of International Day of Forests

Winter activities continue at Sands Point Preserve, with Family “Forest-Themed” Yoga on Sunday, March 8, from 11-11:45 a.m. The event is one of the many fitness and nature programs that take place throughout the year at the Preserve.

The March 8 yoga program comes just before International Day of Forests, which is celebrated later this month, and promotes the importance of forests and trees in our lives. Even if you have never experienced yoga for yourself, the Preserve invites you to bring your family and friends as we exercise our minds, bodies, and souls – and perhaps test out a tree pose, or two.

The program is held at the original Guggenheim Estate, where membership helps protect the site’s historic buildings and grounds.

The Preserve’s Club Create also offers weekly art and yoga classes through June for children for children ages 3-8.

The next family and nature program is How Animals Protect Themselves on Saturday, March 21. What does “play dead” mean? Is it a technique used more for protection or for hunting? This live animal presentation will show us how features such as color, speed, hard shells, claws, teeth, and stings are used by large and small animals.

The 2015 Annual Pass is now available, and benefits – including free admission to the Preserve and many of its events, as well as special discounts – start immediately.

Friends of the Sands Point Preserve is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with the mission to protect and preserve the 216-acre waterfront grounds and historic mansions and to provide a range of cultural arts events and educational programs for families and schools in the Phil Dejana Learning Center and Outdoor Classroom.
