Free Brass Concert in Port Washington This Week
Meet the special guest artists set to perform.
Don Winston & Friends Brass Recital No. 5 is holding a free concert in Port Washington this weekend.
The performance will be held at Lutheran Church of Our Savior, located at 12 Franklin Ave., at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19.
The concert will feature special guest performances as well as performances from local residents from Port Washington and across Long Island.

Demondrae Thurman—Euphonium
- One of the top euphonium soloists in the country, Demondrae has appeared at all 4 editions of Don Winston & Friends. He made his first appearance with the New York Philharmonic in June.
Derek Fenstermacher—Tuba
- Derek is the Principal Tuba with the New Jersey Symphony and the Albany Symphony.
Jonathan Whitaker— Trombone
- Jonathan is the trombone professor at the University of Alabama. He has also performed locally at Carnegie Hall and with the New York Philharmonic.
Burt Mason—Trombone
- Burt is a native of Central Islip, a former Trombone Soloist with with New York Staff Band of the Salvation Army, and has recently performed with the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera, and the Utah Symphony to name a few.
Joanna Ross Hersey— Tuba
- She is the former Principal Tuba with the US Coast Guard Band, Associate Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at the University of Carolina at Pembroke.
