Free Life-Saving Mammography Screenings

With October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, it is the perfect time to have a potentially life-saving mammogram.

Free mammography screenings will take place at the Port Washington Public Library on Thursday, October 10 between 8:45 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. They are free for uninsured or with a co-payment for those with insurance. The exams are provided by Nassau County University Medical Center staff in their “Mammo Van,” which visits communities across Nassau County to provide mammographies to women 40 years of age or older.

Early breast cancer detection through mammograms saves a lot of lives. “I can’t urge people enough to have annual mammograms,” Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton who sponsors several mammography events each year said. “Everyone is busy, but this potentially life-saving exam is easy and fast.”

Pre-scheduled appointments are necessary and can be made by contacting Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton’s office at 516-571-6211.
