Girl Injured In Locust Valley Fire: Chief

LOCUST VALLEY, NY — A young girl was injured in a four-alarm fire at a Locust Valley home Wednesday afternoon, according to the Locust Valley Fire Department.

The fire broke out just after noon at a home on Chester Street, but it was contained to one room, said Locust Valley First Assistant Chief Ralph Longo. The girl was treated for injuries by a fire department medic and she did not need to be transported to the hospital, Longo said. No one else was injured in the fire, he said.

All together it took about 45 minutes for 65 firefighters from Locust Valley and three additional departments — Oyster Bay, East Norwich, and Bayville — to extinguish the flames, Longo said. Police medics from Nassau County and police officers from the Old Brookville Police Department also responded to the fire, according to a Nassau County police spokeswoman.

Arson is not suspected, but investigators from the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s office are still trying to make a determination as to the fire’s cause, Longo said.
