Young Wimbledon Champ Brings Title Home to Long Island
A Long Island tennis player came home from London Monday with a little something extra in his luggage: the Wimbledon boys singles title.
Noah Rubin, 18, of Rockville Centre, battled his way through the qualifying rounds and ultimately made it to the finals to face 16-year-old Stefan Kozlov, of Florida. Rubin scored a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 victory over Kozlov in the first all-American final since 1977.

Rubin said he "didn't expect the court to be that packed" and thought no one would show up. Rubin ended up rallying the crowdsaround love-30 once people began to clap. The fans were subdued by a chair umpire.
Long Beach Firemen Make Adorable Rescue

Long Beach firefighters made an unusual and adorable rescue of two baby birds Tuesday morning, wrote the department on Facebook.
At 8:36 a.m., firefighters received a special request call to assist Long Beach Police and animal control at the 300 block of East Market Street. A bird's nest had reportedly fallen from a tree containing two baby herons.
A member of Tower Ladder 2372 was carefully raised into the tree where he placed the nest and its occupants back in their home.
Justin Timberlake Gives LI Boy Star TreatmentAn East Meadow boy with a rare disease got the VIP treatment from a world famous musician.
Justin Timberlake sent a limo Thursday to bring 12-year-old Robbie Twible to the Hammerstein Ballroom, where front row seats were waiting for him, according to New York Daily News.
Robbie has epidermolysis bullosa, a rare and debilitating skin disease with no known cure. He was still recovering from surgery during the performance but still had the time of his life, telling NYDN that the show was "amazing."
Timberlake ended the night perfectly by dedicating his last song of the night, "Mirror," to Robbie. He also got to take home bags of merchandise and hang out with the singer backstage.
Forest Avenue Elementary's Andrea Francisco Named School Library Media Specialist of the YearForest Avenue Elementary School media specialist/librarian Andrea Francisco has been named the 2014 School Library Media Specialist of the Year by Western Suffolk BOCES School Library System during its 16th annual conference, “Digging Digital: Engaging Students.”
This award is presented to a school library specialist who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to students and staff and a love of reading through creative programming. Ms. Francisco was also given this award for having participated in professional development in support of excellence in librarianship.
Port Washington’s wit & whim has selected Community Chest of Port Washington as its “Charity of the Month” for July. The shop, which offers one-of-a-kind items, says it donates proceeds to a different nonprofit each month.
