Setauket Elementary Students Join Town Recycling Efforts
As part of the school’s continued recycling efforts, Setauket Elementary School kindergartners in Lori Bard’s and Kelly Freeman’s classes were selected to beautify a 55-gallon drum for the Town of Brookhaven Painting and Recycling Program.
With the help of their teachers and several parent volunteers, the classes created a “Setauket Cares” design on the receptacle to symbolize their commitment to keeping their neighborhood free of waste.
US Naval Sea Cadet Corps Given Permanent Home at the Long Island Maritime MuseumSuffolk County Executive Steve Bellone signed a bill on Saturday authorizing the County and the Long Island Maritime Museum to establish a more permanent relationship with the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps.

The bill will allow the Sea Cadets to remain at the Long Island Maritime Museum in West Sayville and will allow them to improve existing structures on the Museum grounds, offer their program on an ongoing basis and to more cadets, and foster public appreciation for maritime/naval history.
Whitmore’s James Metzger Presents H.S. Lacrosse AwardThe fourth annual James C. Metzger Outstanding Player Award recently was presented to Dan Bockelman at the conclusion of Suffolk County’s Half Hollow Hills East High School boys’ lacrosse season. The award is named for a leading Half Hollow Hills High School East benefactor who also was an All-American student athlete at the school during the 1970s. Metzger is CEO of The Whitmore Group, a leading insurance services and estate planning company in the New York metropolitan area that is headquartered in Garden City.
“Dan has been an exceptional player and student during his four years at Half Hollow Hills,” said Metzger, who personally presented the honor. “He is a team player, a leader and, as his numbers show, a scorer who we believe will lead him to additional lacrosse success at Cornell University.”
Adelphi Athlete of the Year Graduates
Gregory Puskuldjian completed his four years at Adelphi University and graduated this spring with a Degree in Business and an incredible Lacrosse career as a Faceoff Man playing for the Adelphi Panthers.
Greg joined Adelphi after graduation from North Shore High School, looking for an opportunity for a good education but to also to play Lacrosse. Greg dabbled in many sports while he was younger and many remember him as a hockey and soccer player, but he always loved lacrosse.

Syosset recently undergo a successful Melody Valve procedure, a revolutionary treatment option for patients suffering from heart issues that might later require open-heart surgery, but the avid hockey fan was also surprised at the hospital by Hockey Hall of Famer Pat La Fontaine, who presented Cord with a signed hockey stick.
“I always knew I would go ahead with the Melody Valve technology,” said Cord. “I trust my parents and my doctors. I’m pretty matter-of-fact about that. But meeting Pat LaFontaine – I’m in ecstasy.”
Cord was born with Tetralogy of Fallot, a congenital heart defect that changes the normal flow of blood through the heart. When he was just 48 hours old, he underwent surgery to help bring oxygenated blood to his lungs through the insertion of tubes called conduits. Months later he underwent another surgery.
