Guggenheim Girl Scout Troop Donates Xylophones to Guggenheim STEM Lab
Port Washington, New York (December 2018)—The Port Washington Union Free School District’s Guggenheim Girl Scout Troop 434 is excited to announce their recent donation to Guggenheim Elementary School. Each year, the girls donate the proceeds from their cookie sales to a worthy cause that ties into school curriculum; this year Troop 434 decided on the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) lab at Guggenheim.
“The district is so thankful for Guggenheim Girl Scout Troop 434’s generous donation to the STEAM Lab at Guggenheim,” said Dr. Kathleen Mooney, Superintendent of Port Washington School District. “The girls’ thoughtfulness and commitment to working together for the good of others – in this case for their fellow students at Guggenheim – is indicative of the character of our students throughout the district. Our students continue to make us proud every day in every way.”
Last year as Brownies, the girls designated STEAM to be their theme for the year, participating in STEAM experiments and taking a trip to an art studio where they learned various painting techniques. This year, the troop decided to use the balance of their funds to benefit the STEAM lab at Guggenheim. Guggenheim Girl Scout Troop 434 purchased xylophones and sketch kits for the school’s Dash robots and presented their donations to Barbara Giebel, Principal of Guggenheim Elementary School; Dr. Kim Licato, Assistant Principal of Guggenheim Elementary School; and Mrs. Mody and Mrs. Tiberia, STEAM club organizers.

Guggenheim Girl Scout Troop 434 is led by Linda Kulla and Karen Fishbein. The girls have all been focusing on the art aspect of STEAM, the motivation behind their musical donation. The STEAM lab will benefit greatly from this donation, bringing sound into the lessons of Guggenheim students.
