'Heart And Soul' Of Port Washington Fire's Drill Team Honored
The department said his "tireless devotion" is unmatched.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — A former Port Washington fire chief has been recognized for his decades-long service to the department's drill team.
Members of the Port Washington Fire Department's Road Runners Drill Team on Monday night honored former Chief John "Bubba" Salerno with a plaque for his 50-plus years of "dedicated service" to the Road Runners and Rowdy's, as well as the Squirts and junior Road Runners.
"Anyone who follows our team knows that he is the heart and soul of our team and his work making sure we have everything we need to be successful year round," the department wrote in a Facebook post Tuesday morning.

Salerno not only attends practices, he shops Fridays and then prepares food and cooks Saturdays for the teams. Then in the winter, he commits to selling Christmas Trees.
"His tireless devotion to us all is unmatched," the department said. "Congratulations on this well deserved honor and thank you."
