Huge Turnout at Blood Drive to Support Injured Port Washington Police Officer

Some blood donors waited in line for up to two hours.

The community showed tremendous support at the blood drive for a Port Washington Police officer who was seriously injured in the line of duty last month.

Port Washington PBA hosted the drive on Monday, Feb. 20 and some blood donors waited in line for up to two hours to donate. The drive collected over 250 pints of blood for donation.

Traffic Enforcement Safety Officer Michael McNulty was operating a motorcycle during a police escort to a hospital when the accident occurred on Saturday, Jan. 28. His injury required him to receive multiple blood transfusions.

The officer is still in the hospital and his recovery is expected to take years. He is still in need of several additional major surgeries.

The Port Washington PBA is collecting donations for the officer’s family to assist with future expenses. McNulty’s wife cannot return to work as she is constantly by his side in a hospital’s intensive care unit.
