Man Drowns During Swim At Manorhaven Beach Park: Police

The man was discovered floating face-down by his friend: police.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — A man drowned after he went for a swim at Manorhaven Beach Park on Monday, the Nassau County Police Department announced.

The man, 61, and his male friend, 43, went to the park. The 61-year-old man decided to go swimming while his friend remained on the beach, police said. Not long after, the man on the beach was unable to see his friend, police said. He entered the water and found the man floating face-down, police said. This happened around 2:27 p.m.

He attempted to remove his friend but needed assistance and notified a lifeguard in the pool area, police said.

The man was removed from the water and transported by Port Washington Fire Department to a nearby hospital, police said.

He was pronounced dead by a staff physician at 3:06 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing, and the name of the man who died is being withheld for now, police said.
