Port Washington, NY (May 2019)—The Port Washington Union Free School District (PWUFSD) is excited to announce Manorhaven Elementary School recently earned 1st place in Nassau County for the 5th Annual New York State (NYS) Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AHPERD) Get Moving Video Contest.

Manorhaven’s health and physical education teachers—also current members of NYS AHPERD—worked with students to develop and submit a video that showcases building initiatives for students to “get moving” during gym class. The video features different exercises and programs implemented throughout the district’s elementary level incorporating NYS Learning Standards for Health and Physical Education: 1) personal health and fitness, and 2) a safe and healthy environment. The video also shows students utilizing community resources and practicing healthy lifestyles.

Videos were required to follow a 10-component rubric: “Show us Your Healthy Lifestyle” theme, connection to NYSLS for Health and/or physical education, enthusiasm of participants, reference to NYS AHPERD, creativity, title and credits, quality of video, quality of audio,

NYS AHPERD awarded $2,000 worth of Flaghouse physical orientation equipment to Manorhaven for earning first place.
