New York State COVID-19 Rent Relief Program

Help for renters

The Application New York State COVID-19 Rent Relief Program is available.

The application period is short. It ends on July 30th.

  • The on-line link is: https://hcr.ny.gov/rrp#application
  • You must be considered “rent burdened” (your rent divided by your gross income must be greater than or equal to 30%)
  • The paper application (in English & Spanish) is available for download on the site. It must be postmarked by July 30th.
  • Frequently Asked Questions are available in English & Spanish

Some things to know:

  • Gross Income includes income received from Unemployment Insurance and the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (“boost”).
  • A family can receive a subsidy for up to 4 months of rent assistance.
  • Identity and Income proof is required.
  • To be eligible, one member of the household must be able to receive benefits under Title IV of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 (PRWORA). i.e. legal documentation
