North Shore Animal League Looks to Expand Port Washington Facilities [Renderings]

An upcoming public hearing will discuss some of the issues involving the construction plans.

A Town of North Hempstead public hearing will be held to discuss some issues involving the North Shore Animal League proposal to expand and improve their facilities in Port Washington.

The North Shore Animal League (NSAL) looks to build a two-story addition that will upgrade and replace their current one-story building located at the corner of Lewyt Street and S. Bayless Avenue.

Issues regarding the construction that will be discussed at the meeting include:

  • A detailed landscaping plan to show the retention of all existing trees around the perimeter of the project and an alternative landscape plan in case the trees are damaged or compromised during the construction process.
  • A detailed on-site construction staging plan that would provide a timetable of the construction process and the locations of where the various construction equipment would be on-site.
  • A Maintenance and Protection of Traffic plan that would address any traffic concerns during the construction on the condition that work is prohibited during peak morning and evening rush hours on school days.

Anyone looking to discuss these issues can attend a Town meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. at Town Hall, located at 220 Plandome Road in Manhasset.
