Ryan Silbert produced the film "The Girl Is In Trouble," which premieres in theaters this weekend.

A Port Washington native has collaborated with Spike Lee, a fellow NYU Film School alum, in a suspenseful crime movie coming to theaters this weekend.

This isn’t new territory for Ryan Silbert, a 1998 graduate of Paul Schreiber High School, who has already worked with some big names in the film industry.

His latest film, “The Girl Is In Trouble,” will be released in theaters, iTunes and VOD on Friday, April 3.

“I was very fortunate to work with Spike Lee and the very talented director, Julius Onah as a producer on ‘Girl,’” said Silbert, who worked as a producer of the movie. “Our mutual affiliation with the NYU Graduate Film School had put us all together, and it has been a terrific collaboration.”

“The Girl Is In Trouble” tells the story of a struggling New York DJ who discovers murder evidence after spending the night with a mysterious girl. He must decide whether to blackmail the killer or to help the girl get out of trouble.

Some recognizable actors in the movie include Columbus Short of “Scandal” and Wilmer Valderrama of “That ‘70s Show.”

“I think this film shows how talented the actors are in creating characters that are real departures from the roles they may be best known by,” Silbert said.

Silbert, who lives in Manhattan, often visits his hometown to see his parents and to contribute to the community. He has joined local panel discussions and screenings, and he’s been a presenter on filmmaking issues at the Gold Coast Film Festival and the Port Washington Public Library.

Silbert has produced the films:

  • “Holy Rollers” with Jesse Eisenberg
  • Academy Award winning “God of Love”
  • “A Birders Guide To Everything” with Ben Kingsley
