Heavy House Fire, Explosion in Dix Hills

It took firefighters close to three hours to extinguish the fire, according to fire officials.

The Dix Hills Fire Department battled a serious house fire on Tuesday morning.

Firefighters responded to reports of a heavy fire and explosion coming from a two-story home on Seaman Neck Road and Hastings Street around 9 a.m.

The rear of the structure partially collapsed when firefighters responded to the scene, fire officials said.

About 70 firefighters and rescue personnel, nine trucks, three ambulances, a rehab unit and a paramedic responder helped battle the blaze. These units were under the command of Chief Robert Fling and operations by Third Assistant Chief Joe Williamson.

Mutual aid was requested to the scene from the Deer Park, Melville, and Wyandanch fire departments, with standby coverage from the Greenlawn Fire Department, Wyandanch-Wheatley Heights Ambulance and the Huntington Community First Aid Squad, fire officials said.

It took firefighters close to three hours to extinguish the fire.

There were no reported injuries.

Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Huntington Town Fire Marshal are investigating the incident.

This is the seventh house fire this year that required response from the Dix Hills Fire Department. The most recent blaze took place on Monday, March 23.
