Port 3rd Grade Blue Lacrosse Finishes Season 8-1
Team effort helps Little Vikings overcome stiff competition.

By Steve Avazis
The PYA 3rd Grade blue travel Lacrosse team finished the 2013 season with a strong 8-1 record.
With wins over Garden City, Massapequa, West Islip and Levittown the class of 2022 faced stiff competition on aweekly basis.
Leading the way were offensive leaders Henry Haberman and Christo Freitas. Each week the dynamic duo stepped up to shoulder the load by scoring goals dishing out assists and retaining possessionsfor the offense.
Also chipping in on offense were Matt DeLeonardis, Gavin Jacobsen, Alex Argyros, Kevin Taylor, Nicky Valente,Anthony Bellomo, Andrew Avazis, Chris Carillo, Thomas LaRosa, Davis Choi, Jack Shields, Aidan Thomas, Myles Siskind, Luke DePalma and Jamie Goldman.
On the defensive end, the Little Vikings were strong. While most kids in youth lacrosse want to play attack and score goals this groupof boys was different. While all of them could have contributed on the offensive end these boys took pride in defending their goal andclearing the ball out for the offense to thrive.
Playing with pride all season were Dante DeBueriis, Matt Freeman, Sean Jacobs and Joe Scandalios. Not many youth lacrosse teams are lucky enough to have as talented a group on defense at this age level. To top it off, without the benefit of regular practice or special training, DeBueriis and attacker Kevin Taylor stepped up and split the goaltending duties with great success all year. The team thanks them for their sacrifice.
The coaching staff of Steve Avazis, Tony Bellomo, Mark Freitas and Donald Jacobs wish to thank the boys and their families as wellas PYA Lacrosse commissioner Simon Walsh and Executive director Ron Henderson for their dedication and hard work this season.
Look out Nassau County, Here comes the Port Washington class of 2022.
