Port Washington Boys Swim Team Loses to Manhasset

The boys swim team take a loss, but still recognize their achievements.

On Thursday night, the Port Washington Boys Swim Team suffered a 101-82 loss against Manhasset.  They are now ranked 9th in their conference, and stand at 0-8.  

Their preseason ranking and conference 3 ranking was 17th, and they were bumped up to 8th place.  

"We faced some really tough and competitive teams in the preseason," said Head Coach Joe Lennon, who has coached Port Washington for five years. "We did the best we could."

Port swimmer Craig Todd placed first in the 200-meter IM, as well as the 100-meter butterfly, which he finished in 1:02.65. In addition, Jason Moss’s 24.96 time took first place in the 50-meter freestyle. Todd, Moss, Mattias Franco and Jake Schwartz took first in the 200-meter freestyle relay. Still, their efforts were not enough to defeat Manhasset. 

Prior to the race, Port Washington held a special honoring for some of the team members.  junior Isaac Batbayar and seniors Shiwoo Moon, Jake Schwartz, Jason Moss and Billy Stathis were recognized for their achievements and dedication to the team, and were presented with flowers.

"It takes a dedicated athlete to be able to swim," Lennon pointed out. "We're up at 5:45 a.m. to train, it takes a lot of discipline and team work to pull through."

The Vikings' next meet is against Wantagh High School at 6 p.m. at Farmingdale State College on Jan. 24 – their final dual meet before the Weekend Division Championships in February.
