Port Washington Composer Presents a Staged Reading of His New Musical
"The Lure" will be presented to the public for the first time at the Port Washington Public Library.

A Port Washington composer will present a staged reading of a new musical comedy at the Port Washington Library in September.
A cast of six will present “The Lure” to the public for the first time with piano accompaniment.
“The Lure” is a story about a famous inventor who leaves his company and disappears for seven years. His company begins to fail without him, and the new boss pulls all the stops to get the inventor to come back.

Composer David B. Goldberg took his time completing “The Lure.” He spent five years finishing the book, the lyrics and the music.
The staged reading kicks off at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 30.

The reading will be held thanks to the the support of The Port Washington Play Troupe.
Goldberg, who moved to Port Washington in 1999, previously lived and composed a variety of music in New York City for two decades. He lives with his wife Nanci and 12-year-old son, Jonathan.
A few highlights of his past work include:
- Collaboration with with poet laureate Stanley Kunitz for the Cantata ”The Wellfleet Whale” which won the Newark Star Ledger’s Premiere of the Year award.
- Alex Ross of the New York Times called his setting of Walt Whitman’s “Give Me the Splendid Silent Sun” “...bumptiously atonal…”
- He wrote the music for a horror movie called “Through Dead Eyes.”
- His romantic musical comedy revue “Sex Changes Everything” received a warm reception and played a number of performances at Don’t Tell Mama in NYC.
- He recently released a CD of compositions titled “Absolute Music” which Tim Page called ”...a novel and unalloyed pleasure.”
Parental Guidance is suggested for adult language, as the reading isn’t appropriate for young children.
