Port Washington Farmers’ Market Opening for Season on June 9th

The Port Washington Organic Farmers' Market opens this Saturday morning at the Town Dock! Fresh produce, seafood, flowers, and more!

If you're going to talk the talk about sustainable food systems, you better walk the walk. At least, that's the philosophy of Patti and Doug Wood, the founders and managers of the Port Washington Farmers' Market, which officially opens for it's sixteenth season on Saturday morning, June 9th at 8am.

The market, which is the only one in New York State featuring primarily organic fruits, vegetables and other food products, has become a popular place for Port residents who want to meet the farmers who actually grow their food.

The market is anchored by two large organic farmers from the East end of Long Island, the Golden Earthworm Farm and Orient Organics. Other vendors at the market include an organic flower grower from Emerald Farm, organic apples from the Old Bethpage Restoration Farm, purveyors of local fish, pasta, bread, honey, gluten-free baked goods, pickles, organic kombucha, fresh squeezed organic juices, granola, organic hand made soaps and personal care products, pottery, trees and seedlings and other food-based items.

The market will be open every Saturday from 8am to 12pm from June 9th through the end of October, and is sponsored by Grassroots Environmental Education, a local non-profit organization. Residents can track the activities of the market by following the market on Facebook. For more information or to volunteer, please call 516-883-0887.
