Port Washington Resident Announces Candidacy for Nassau County District Attorney

A prosecutor from Port Washington will announce Wednesday that he will run for Nassau County District Attorney.

Michael A. Scotto was to officially declare his candidacy at a press conference at the Nassau County Supreme Court building in Mineola at 11 a.m.

Scotto, a Democrat is the former Manhattan Chief of Rackets Bureau and served for over 22 years as a prosecutor in the office of the Manhattan District Attorney, Robert Morgenthau, and the current DA, Cy Vance.

Scotto will go up against Acting District Attorney Madeline Singas in the September primary. The Democratic party is backing Singas, Newsday reports. The winner of the primary will face Republican Kate Murray, the current Hempstead Town Supervisor, in November. 

Scotto grew up in Port Washington and still lives in the community with his wife Marie and three children.
