Port Washington's 2019-20 School Budget: What You Need To Know

Port Washington residents will vote on the budget on May 21. Here's what they should know.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY--Port Washington residents will vote on whether or not to pass the 2019-20 school budget on Tuesday, May 21. Here's what you should know before then.

The Port Washington School District's proposed spending plan for the 2019-20 school year is $160,556,916. That's a $4.618m, or 2.96 percent, increase from the current budget.

To fund the increase, the district proposes a tax levy of $140,995,639. That's up $3.946m, or 2.88 percent from the current year's.

Some of the biggest increases come in teacher salaries grades 7-12 ($491,744), contract transportation ($281,150), administrators' medical insurance ($454,189), social security ($255,040) and custodial staff salaries ($215,831).

The biggest decreases come in teachers' retirement ($588,213). Teacher salaries K-6 is now marked as K-3, so that number is down $6.46m to $16.116m total. Teacher salaries 4-6 are budgeted at $6,868,617.

The vote will be held at Carrie Palmer Weber Middle School on Tuesday, May 21 from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
