PWUFSD to Appoint New Superintendent at June 3rd BOE Meeting

PWUFSD's BOE to appoint new superintendent on June 3rd at 7:30 p.m. in the library of Paul D. Schreiber High School

Port Washington, N.Y. (May 2019)—The Port Washington Union Free School District’s Board of Education invites the community to its meeting on June 3rd to appoint Dr. Michael Hynes as the new superintendent of Port Washington Schools. Dr. Hynes’ term will begin on July 15, 2019. Set to take place at Paul D. Schreiber High School, the BOE meeting will enter Executive Session at 7 p.m. in the library computer lab and will return to Public Session at 7:30 p.m. in the library.

“Over the course of the next month and a half, the Board will be working closely with Dr. Mooney and Dr. Hynes to ensure a smooth transition leading into the 2019-2020 school year,” said Board President Karen Sloan. “We invite members of the community to join us at the Board meeting on June 3rd to welcome Dr. Hynes to the Port Washington Union Free School District.”

Dr. Hynes brings to Port Washington Schools over 20 distinguished years of experience in education. Most recently, Dr. Hynes served as the superintendent of schools for the Patchogue-Medford School District. Prior to Patchogue-Medford, Dr. Hynes was superintendent of the Shelter Island School District. He has also held the positions of assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, elementary and middle school principal, and elementary school teacher.

Dr. Hynes holds a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Administration and Technology from Dowling College. He also holds a master of arts in elementary education from Dowling College and a bachelor of arts in psychology from Bethany College.

Dr. Hynes’ commitment to an educational philosophy built around educating the whole child and his reputation for community engagement will build and expand upon the wonderful foundation established by Dr. Kathleen Mooney. The Board looks forward to seeing residents on June 3rd at Paul D. Schreiber High School.
