Local toddlers in Port Washington had the chance to step into a studio and take a dance class for the first time, thanks to Danceworks, NY and the Parent Resource Center.
The three-and-under set – 25 boys and girls – hopped, skipped, chased and jumped, incorporating instruments, scarves, butterfly wands and wings.

“It is so fulfilling to touch the lives of children through dance,” said Trish Gargani, who owns Dancworks, NY.
The PRC’s Outreach Program provides children up to age five from low-income families in and around Port Washington with early-childhood classes and enriching experiences while offering a network of parental support. The Outreach program is funded by grants and donations from businesses and organizations.

Hosting the event was a natural fit for Gargani. Her studio caters to those 18 months-18 years who study ballet, lyrical, jazz, hip-hop and creative movement. There is even a “Tutus & Tiaras” class for two-year-olds.
After class, each child had the chance to pose for professional pictures by Linda Nutter of Port Washington-based Linda Nutter Photography. Nutter also offered to print each picture as a keepsake.
From Our Hearts to Your Toes, a Melville-based organization, donated dance costumes for each child. See the photos on Facebook.
In addition, Stop and Shop also donated gift cards for refreshments.
Gargani said she “can’t wait” to plan her next event with the Parent Resource Center.
