Students Take on 'Big Fish, The Musical' at Port Summer Show

Local students will hit the stage to perform in a musical designed by 2010 Schreiber graduate Nick Gardella at the annual Port Summer Show.

Nearly 90 teenagers included in the cast, the backstage crew and the orchestra have worked to put together a performance of “Big Fish, The Musical.”

The musical is based on the novel by Daniel Wallace and the acclaimed film written by John August,

The story follows Edward Bloom, (played by Sameer Nanda) a traveling salesman who lives life to the fullest, and then some. Edward’s larger than life stories thrill everyone around him, especially his devoted wife Sandra (played by Tessa Peierls). But their son, Will (played by Wyn Stopford) is determined to find out the truth behind his father’s epic tales.

The Port Summer Show has provided theater-loving kids, ages 12 to 18, with the opportunity to have a professional theatrical experience since 1972.

“No matter what kind of day they’ve had, the kids come roaring into rehearsals with all the energy and enthusiasm of opening night,” says Port Summer Show co-president Jeanne Brennan.

Catch the show at the Schreiber High School Auditorium at the following dates:

  • Thursday, Aug. 6 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Friday, Aug. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, Aug. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Sunday Aug. 9 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $10 and $5 for kids 12 and under. Senior citizens are admitted free on Thursday, Aug. 6.
