Successful Fundraiser Held for Summer Camp Scholarships

Young performers raised monies for "Summer Together" camp scholarship fund for Port children at Dolphin Bookshop event

More than 100 Port residents and youth performers filled the Dolphin Bookshop café on Sunday April 29 in a fundraiser for Summer Together, a summer camp scholarship fund for Port Washington children. The event brought monies raised to date to over $5,000, with the goal of sending between 30-40 school-age children from families in need of economic assistance to a local summer camp for one week.

Cami Midrano, the president of the Senior Class at Schreiber High School, served as emcee and introduced more than a dozen acts featuring local youth singing, dancing, and sharing other diverse talents. The performers were Amy Baxter, Mikey Capobianco, Iann Fine, Isabella Garcia, Micha Golan, Denise Lozano, Alex Maass, Emely Martinez, Natalie Martinez, Aneesha Mirza, the Navatman School dancers, Matthew Prudenti, Ella Rowe, Sarabeth Schiff, Abby Smith and Piper Woods.

“We are so grateful to all the young people who came out to share their talents to help raise money so their fellow children can have access to summertime opportunities,” said event organizer Sonia Arora. “We owe big thanks to Dolphin Bookshop for generously offering its café space, and to Bach 2 Rock’s Elana Hayden and Nicki Winzelberg for providing the keyboard and other musical equipment, and for encouraging their students to participate.” Arora added thanks to Durga Jaiswal of Henna Designs for participating.
