Virginia Man Tried To Steal Boat In Nassau: Police
The man, when confronted, untied the boat he was standing on, causing it to crash into another docked boat, police say.
MANORHAVEN, NY — A Virginia man tried to steal a boat in Manorhaven on Wednesday, Nassau police said.
Witnesses saw Benjamin Fields, 47, of Blacksburg, standing on a boat he doesn't own on the docks of Matinicock Avenue around 8:40 a.m., detectives said. When confronted, Fields untied the boat from the dock, leading it to crash into another docked boat, causing damage, police said. He tried to run away but was arrested by police shortly after, police said.
Fields was charged with first-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree criminal mischief. His arraignment was scheduled for Thursday at First District Court, at 99 Main St., Hempstead.
