WATCH: DeGiorgio Accepts ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

North Hempstead councilwoman helps boost ALS fundraising and awareness.

North Hempstead Councilwoman Dina DeGiorgio recently took the Ice Bucket Challenge.

After being nominated by Port Washington Police Commissioner Dave Franklin, DeGiorgio agreed to the challenge.

The initiative challenges people to either donate $100 to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, and to dump ice water on their heads within 24 hours of being nominated. As of Monday, the ALS Association announced the movement has raised $15.6 million in donations, compared with $1.8 million during the same time period last year.
