whit & whim Raises Money for the Historical Society During Month of September

On Wed Sept 16th, Join the Historical Society at whit & whim 6 Carlton Avenue for a cocktail party fundraiser!

wit & whim, Port Washington’s “little shop with the big heart” is a philanthropic gift shop giving away 100% of its profits to local charities. The Cow Neck Peninsula Historical Society is honored to have been chosen for this coming month. During the entire month of September, 100% of the profits will go to Port Washington’s historical society, helping support the Society’s mission to preserve the area’s history.

wit & whim is stocked with a unique selection of handmade, vintage, and modern goods by local artisans from around the world. Laurie Scheinman, owner of wit & whim states “September is going to be an especially packed month at wit & whim! We will be celebrating our three-year anniversary beginning September 24th and we will be unveiling our, “New York State of Mind” metropolitan collection of art & themed merchandise so fabulous even we can’t wait! Working with the Cow Neck Peninsula Historical Society is a natural fit for us since the shop is housed in a restored 1885 hallmark home along the waterfront of our beautiful and historical town.”

Get a head start on your holiday shopping or gear up for “back to school” by shopping during the month of September. Chris Bain, President of the Cow Neck Peninsula Historical Society said “The Historical Society is delighted to be working closely with wit & whim, whose charitable business model makes it possible for small volunteer-based organizations such as ours to achieve our goals.” When asked how the funding would benefit the Historical Society, Bain remarked, “In our case this partnership during the month of September will help us replace our ancient heating system for the historic Sands-Willets House, converting our two inefficient oil burners to cleaner, more efficient and less expensive natural gas. Port Washington’s historical society receives no regular government support and is dependent on charitable contributions, so every bit helps.”
