Wildlife CSI, Open House for Camp CREATE at Sands Point Preserve

Family fun this Sunday at the original Guggenheim Estate, where membership helps protect the site's historic buildings and grounds.

Break out of the winter doldrums on Sunday for family winter activities at Sands Point Preserve. On Sunday, Feb. 22, the Preserve is hosting two special events for children and their caregivers, just as their school break winds down.

The programs are held at the original Guggenheim Estate, where membership helps protect the site’s historic buildings and grounds.

From 11 a.m.-1 p.m., children can take part in the Preserve’s Wildlife CSI program, and become indoor-outdoor sleuths. The Preserve will provide the clues so detectives can find their way around the grounds and gather evidence to solve a mystery. Get ready to answer such questions as: What can scat, pellets, fossils, nests, feathers, and tracks and photographs tell us about the crime scene? Was the snake the predator or the prey? How do we know what the owl ate? Join us in this fun-filled adventure. Admission is $10 per car, or free with an Annual Pass. Pre-registration is required. Email your name, preferred session start time, and the number of adults and children (with their ages) to info@friendsspp.org.

And from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., the Preserve is hosting the Open House for Camp CREATE. This event offers families the chance to preview the Preserve’s summer program by experiencing nature through the arts, and the arts through nature, while exploring music, movement, creative writing and theater. Children and parents will have plenty of opportunity to ask questions about the activities and programs planned for this summer. Admission is $10 per car, or free with an Annual Pass.

The Preserve’s Club CREATE also offers weekly art and yoga classes for children from January-June for children ages 3-8. Registration is required, and there is free admission for annual pass members, although there is a small fee for art materials.

This program is offered at 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. Pre-registration is required. Email your name, preferred session start time, and the number of adults and children (with their ages) to info@friendsspp.org.
