WOMEN’S FUND OF LONG ISLAND RECEIVES UNPRECEDENTED GIFT FROM PHILANTHROPIST AND COMMUNITY LEADER

$300,000 Marks Single Largest Donation in Organization’s 20 year History; Gift will Support Both Programs and Endowment Long Island, NY, June 3, 2013- The Women’s Fund of Long Island (WFLI) today announced a $300,000 gift from Amy Hagedorn, a longtime supporter and friend of WFLI and a recognized, highly-respected philanthropist. The donation, the single largest in its over 20 year history, will support WFLI’s endowment and the many programs that are funded through WFLI’s annual grant making, leadership and information initiatives. “Amy Hagedorn has been one of the Women’s Fund’s greatest supporters and champions, but this gift is truly remarkable and underscores her passion for improving the lives of Long Island’s women and girls,” said Stacey Scarpone, Executive Director of WFLI. “We are grateful for Amy’s vision, her generosity and her leadership in setting a new bar and in challenging others to join her in supporting WFLI.” “This gift is an outgrowth of the many years I’ve watched, admired and supported the Women’s Fund,” said Amy Hagedorn. “I especially respect the organization’s dedicated and focused leadership, and its grants committee, in particular, which does a wonderful job of finding deserving groups and then helps them with both grants and guidance.” In making the donation, Ms. Hagedorn noted the importance of encouraging others to support WFLI. “I challenge others to join me in making a sizable donation that would truly make a difference not only to their invaluable grants program but also to their endowment and to ensuring the Women’s Fund’s long-term sustainability.” Each year, WFLI touches the lives of thousands of women and girls across Long Island by providing grants and capacity building support, with WFLI staff and board members sharing their talents, skills and professional expertise with these community-based organizations. For twenty two years, Women’s Fund of Long Island (WFLI) has focused on vulnerable populations of women and girls, seeking to empower them to improve their personal circumstances as well as to elevate the communities in which they live. WFLI invests in the power of women and the dreams of girls by igniting networks that bring about real change and transform the lives of women and girls on Long Island through grantmaking, leadership development, information and philanthropy. To date, WFLI has supported over 300 organizations and provided approximately 450 grants.
