33-Year-Old Hit With Stray Bullet In Crown Heights Shooting: Cops

Cops released video of the man they say opened fire on St. Marks Avenue in broad daylight earlier this month.

CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — Cops have released surveillance video of the man they say opened fire on a Crown Heights street in broad daylight earlier this month.

The man, shown in surveillance video running away, shot twice toward someone in front of 527 St. Marks Ave. just before 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14, police said.

But instead of hitting the person he was aiming for, one of the bullets hit a nearby 33-year-old man in the left leg, police said.

The 33-year-old was sent to Methodist Hostial in stable condition.

The shooter ran up Franklin Avenue, police said.

Nobody else was injured in the shooting, according to cops.

Police said the shooter is approximately 17 to 20 years old, stands 6'3" tall, weighs 250 pounds and was last seen wearing a purple t-shirt, dark colored pants and light colored sneakers.

The incident comes as the city fights an ongoing surge in shootings. In Crown Heights' 77th Precinct in particular, there have been more than double the number of shootings this year than during the same time period in 2019, according to NYPD data.
