Is
it a school? Is it a library? No…it’s a Powerhouse! The 74th Street Powerhouse,
built in 1902, is a quiet building on the outside, but on the inside, it once
housed giant, noisy machines working night and day to create the electricity
that powered elevated trains throughout Manhattan. Electricity production has
gotten much greener since the time of the Powerhouse and we no longer burn coal
to create electricity for our transit system. We’ll discuss the Powerhouse and
other “superhero” buildings in New York City, and then make our own dioramas of
powerful buildings. For ages 6+
