Art Talks Brooklyn
An informal speaker series highlighting the importance of Brooklyn art initiatives and how they positively impact our community. Monthly, we invite three speakers, each allotted 15 minutes, to talk about their history, mission and creative public programming. Learn, network and share ideas for a better Brooklyn.

MoCADA, Isissa Komada-John, Exhibitions Director

MoCADA was established in 1999 as Brooklyn’s first and only museum dedicated to the creation and interpretation of contemporary Black arts and culture. Fifteen years later, MoCADA has expanded from a grassroots startup with a social justice mission to an internationally recognized arts institution, featured in the New York Times, Time Out New York, The Huffington Post, ARTINFO and countless other publications. The museum has established a reputation for cutting edge exhibitions and programs that cross artistic disciplines, creating opportunities for emerging artists and cultivating the next generation of cultural producers. MoCADA has produced over 60 exhibitions and 500 public programs, expanding from the museum’s main gallery to the streets, parks, schools, and public housing of Brooklyn and beyond, while challenging the boundaries of the traditional museum to increase public access to the arts.

Groundswell brings together youth, artists, and community partners, to make public art that advances social change, for a more just and equitable world. Our projects beautify neighborhoods, engage youth in societal and personal transformation, and give expression to ideas and perspectives that are underrepresented in the public dialog.

Groundswell is now celebrating our 18th anniversary as New York’s leading organization dedicated to community public art. Over our eighteen year history, thousands of youth in our programs have worked with professional artists and hundreds of community organizations to transform more than 450 public spaces, enhancing the quality of life for thousands of New Yorkers every day.

KIND AESTHETIC & DELVE, Andrea Wenglowskyj

Andrea Wenglowskyj is an artist and a founding partner of Kind Aesthetic, a creative agency based in Gowanus, Brooklyn that uses art, design and communal action to give voice to ideas and make them exist and thrive in the real world. Our ideal clients are organizations, brands, artists, and creative entrepreneurs who want a stunning visual and emotional representation of their idea that is fresh, exciting and engages their audience. DELVE is the name of their workshop series, networking events, and popular Toolkit that all help artists and creatives best communicate what they do in person, on line and in writing. With DELVE, our goals are simple: to create community, to empower artists and creatives to hone the professional skills they need to put their best work into the world, and to inspire ourselves and others to take action on projects that truly matter.
