Best Thing We Ate This Week: Nicoise Salad at Le Gamin
With crisp trout fillets instead of the more-common tuna, this salad is not to be missed.

I have always been a fan of Nicoise salads. As a carb lover, the potatoes add a hearty element more satisfying than any crouton, and the haricots verts and dijon vinaigrette always remind me of past trips to France. But the Nicoise salad at Le Gamin adds an additional element of pleasure by replacing the tuna fish usually found in the salad with perfectly seasoned crisp trout fillets. And I’m not alone in my adulation. Prospect Heighter Zanna Gilbert, says she comes to the Vanderbilt Avenue café “specifically for the salad.” “It’s everything that salad is supposed to be,” she said one afternoon at the café. “It has just the right amount of dressing , the fish is always excellent, fresh perfectly cooked. It’s just an incredibly well balanced meal.” In fact, Gilbert, who lives on Vanderbilt Avenue, has a favorite at just about every restaurant on the strip including the macaroni and cheese at , roasted Brussels sprouts at , the three bean salad at , the prosciutto fig pizza at , the lamb burger at , the stuffed chicken at and the Chicken Tikka Masala at .
