'Fastrack' Repairs Come to 1, 2 and 3 Lines

MTA's rapid track-repair program will shut down No. 2 and 3 lines overnight, but Prospect Heights stations will be served by the No. 4 train.

Fastrack, the MTA’s new plan to shut down subway service overnight entirely on some lines while repairs are being made, will affect late-night commuters on the 1, 2 and 3 lines beginning on Monday.

From Monday through Friday, between the hours of 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. each night, service on the 1, 2 and 3 lines will be suspended between 34th Street-Penn Station and Atlantic Avenue, in both directions.

However, the No. 4 trains will make all local stops between Atlantic and New Lots Avenue, meaning the Bergen, Grand Army Plaza and Eastern Parkway stations will still have service.

- 3 service will be completely suspended, but 4 trains will operate local in Brooklyn and extend to New Lots Avenue.

- The 42nd Street S shuttle will operate through the night.

Last month, the MTA tried out their new Fastrack program on the 4, 5 and 6 lines, and in four nights repaired platforms, repainted stations, installed new lighting, cleaned the tracks and conducted inspections of signals and switches. The MTA says that the work would have normally taken two months of subway disruptions to complete.

In a Patch online poll last month, 53 percent of readers said that closing a subway line at night for four days straight was too much of a pain, while 46 percent didn’t mind the hassle and found the program efficient.

The next Fastrack overnight closure is scheduled to be the Sixth Avenue B, D and F lines from February 27 to March 2.
