City Council Hopes Hearings Will Prevent Another 'Snowpocalypse'

If the City’s snow removal efforts (or lack thereof) had you riled up last year, the City Council's Committees on Public Safety and Sanitation and Solid Waste Management wants to hear from you, at a public hearing on November 30 at 1 p.m.

New York City residents are encouraged to submit their thoughts on the Department of Sanitation’s borough-based snow plans and the Office of Emergency Management’s Snow Preparedness and Response Report.

The hearing will take place in the 14th Floor Committee Room at 250 Broadway in Lower Manhattan. To testify, register with the sergeant-of-arms on the 14th Floor. Written remarks may also be emailed to speakerquinn@council.nyc.gov, which will be forwarded to the committee's staff.

A hearing held in January about the that blanketed the five boroughs that were stuck in their homes and unable to reach help.

Bo Samajopoulos, a Park Slope carpenter whose street wasn’t plowed for six days had said, "We pay taxes to be served, not violated.”

After December’s “snowpocalypse,” when four to eight inches of snow threatened to fall in late-January.
