7:30pm- Let’s Talk About Cities
Satellite is back in Brooklyn on October 14 with more short talks about cities. This month, we’ll hear about:
Willets Point
Find out what's happening in Prospect Heights-Crown Heightsfor free with the latest updates from Patch.
Willets Point, ugly and unloved, is slowly disappearing off the face of Queens, redeveloped by the people who brought you its neighbor, Citi Field. Shayok Mukhopadhyay used a large-format camera to make formal portraits of the people who are disappearing along with it. They chopped up old cars, sold the parts, fixed younger cars with those parts, played fútbol, grilled their steaks over old oil drums. He will talk about them, and what happens to us when we refuse to look at the consequences of our consumption.
Haiti in New York

Since 2009, Brooklyn-based Haiti Cultural Exchange has been developing programs designed to present Haitian culture to a broad audience while supporting new and established artists, promoting cross-cultural exchange, and encouraging dialogue around contemporary social issues. Co-founder and executive director Régine M. Roumain will discuss.
Public and affordable housing
The Institute for Public Architecture, a new organization promoting socially engaged design, recently concluded Total Reset, a residency program and exhibition exploring solutions for New York’s housing crisis. Executive director Karen Kubey will present.
Art, culture, and community

Now playing with her lovely Bloc Heads, she’s excited to showcase her music with the help of some friends and wonderful musicians. She is excited to continue sharing new music with the world, and if you like what you hear, don’t be afraid to reach out!

11pm- Don Paris Schlotman & The Hired Goons
Genre: Downbeat Sci-Fi Rock
For fans of: Nick Cave, Smog, Sun Kil Moon, Lou Reed, Magnetic Fields
Don is the bass player and co-founder of post-apocalyptic rock band The Sky Captains of Industry. He and his hired goons play minimalist sci-fi rock from the new album Hardest of Hearts that is funny and sad like a train wreck full of clowns.
“This is Don in a Lou Reed meets Johnny Cash mode, with the banjo and reverberating whistling adding to a sense of understated, yet mysteriously present, anarchism. It’s a kind of mix of Reed’s ‘Walk on the Wild Side’ and ‘Perfect Day’” — Eric Hathaway, Sometime in Long Island City
