9pm- Karen Hudson
Genre: Americana
For fans of: Lucinda Williams, Gillian Welch, Linda Ronstadt
The melodies and imagery in Karen Hudson's songs speak to a combination of influences such as So Cal Country Rock's queen Linda Ronstadt, the rootsy vibe of Sheryl Crow, the storytelling of Lucinda Williams, and the pure emotion of Patsy Cline. On "Sonic Bloom," Hudson's 3rd release which was produced by Eric "Roscoe" Ambel (Joan Jett/Del-Lords), she showcases superlative songwriting and a gritty roots rock sound which will firmly plant itself in your mind and memory.
On Sonic Bloom:
"Hudson has been compared to many other women singers, but the name that resonates with me is Linda Ronstadt, with the proviso that we’re talking pre-Peter Asher, albums like Silk Purse, which Lester Bangs found to be “brimming with passion and vulnerability, tremulous, yet possessed of a core of absolute strength,” words that can easily be applied to Hudson. An important difference is that Hudson writes her own songs . . . Mama Was A Train Wreck (“Daddy was a train”) is a standout in a consistently strong set" —3rd Coast Music
". . . especially with Roscoe's in your face mix, Sonic Bloom is an apt title because while on some songs she sings softer and sweeter, it's the ones with the harder edge that grab me" —No Depression

"With her edgy wit, elegant stage presence and a great band behind her, songwriter Karen Hudson has been a mainstay of the New York Americana scene since the early zeros...Hudson’s matter-of-fact vocals carry the lyrics with passion, soul, and rich dynamics, from an insistent wail to a warm, caressing timbre: she’s never sung better." —New York Music Daily

"Hudson writes without judgement and without the bitterness of hindsight, she just presents the story as it happened. It is as fitting to compare her writing to John Steinbeck’s books as it is to Woody Guthrie’s or Bobbie Gentry’s lyrics because there is a depth and understanding in Karen’s words that transcend the song." —Allen Foster, Songwriter Monthly

11pm- Gann Brewer
Genre:Americana
For fans of: List bands that you sound like or if you like this band than they would like you: John Prine, Todd Snider, Townes Van Zandt
Mississippi born, singer-songwriter Gann Brewer carries on the tireless tradition of the Folk Singer within the common American Man. Gann is a part of a new generation of singing ramblers - living, hard traveling, and singing across the oceans, in town or just outside, and along the way. Gann shows a love and clear kinship for previous generations - Ramblin' Jack Elliott & Woody Guthrie (are evident) John Prine, Guy Clark, Mississippi John Hurt, and Hank Williams (all weigh in heavy) - though his tenor is uniquely his own and his signature humor and unpretentious honesty pervades his song-writing. The stories he shapes into song are experiences collected from two decades on the road, in 2013 alone, the Brooklyn-based songwriter played over 75 shows from New York to California, Alaska to the Virgin Islands and many places in between. In December, Gann released his second full-length studio album, Peddlers & Ghosts. This album taps the core of Americana, recounting the highs, lows and in betweens of traversing the American landscape, all conveyed with Gann’s natural style of blending the various emotions - dreaming, longing, humor, desolation - that one encounters along the way.
"Brewer is sort of in the mold of John Prine, that style between talking and singing while spinning yarns about the uncommon common folk with a wry sense of humor and great respect for real people." --- Nightflying Magazine, Little Rock, AR
