Make Music New York Comes to Washington Avenue Today

More than 20 musical groups will perform free concerts on Washington Avenue.

More than 20 musical groups will be performing on Washington Avenue today as part of Make Music New York, a citywide event where new musicians perform outdoor concerts across the city.

Eleven Prospect Heights merchants have signed up to have between one and three musical groups perform in front of their stores.  This is the second year that the Washington Avenue-Prospect Heights Association has hosted the event.

“I just thought it was a great idea, to bring a new vibe to Washington Avenue … to just bring something fun to the neighborhood,” said WAPHA’s president, Dana Otti, who owns the clothing store .

Last year more than 1,000 amateur musical groups performed in plazas, streetcorners, parks and other outdoor spaces across the five boroughs.
