Meet Det. Higgins, NYPD's Official Beekeeper

Where has this NYC hero been hiding?

Det. Daniel Higgins, the ”official NYPD beekeeper,” just opened a Twitter account this afternoon, geniously handled @NYPDbees. And for a professional beekeeper, he’s really got this social-media thing down.

Higgins has already Tweeted photos and videos from nine different bee emergencies.

For example, on June 30, he remembers extracting a “feral hive and swarm” from a Brooklyn tree knob. And before that, on June 24, he captured 30,000 bees that had gathered in a Manhattan street meridian.

Rooftops, crosswalk signs, sidewalks, MTA construction sites — no bee hideout is too tricky for Det. Higgins.

We’ve reached out to Det. Higgins for comment. But mostly so he can answer the most important question of all: Are you really saving New York from the bees, detective, or the bees from New York?
