Collections
of maps, called atlases, can tell a story just like any drawing or photograph.
We’ll take a look at atlases and new maps of New York City and see how artists
and cartographers—trained map makers—create different kinds of maps. Some of
them are wild and fantastical and some are precise and accurate. Then we’ll
make personal maps to bind into our own atlas of New York. For ages 5+
