BROOKLYN, NY — Police shot an unarmed man in the leg in Brooklyn on Monday night after he charged at officers as they arrested another man on Lenox Road, according to NYPD officials.

The man, who is in stable condition at the hospital, ran up to officers who were arresting another suspect on the street for having a gun about 5:45 p.m., Chief of Department Terence A. Monahan said at a press conference after the incident.

The cops saw the man after the suspect they were already arresting shouted "Whoa he coming, he gonna blast me," Monahan said

"The individual rushed toward the officers," he said. "Officers gave commands for the individual to back up and show his hands. We then see the man rush toward our officers while also reaching into his waistband and quickly removing his hands. At this point, one officer discharged his firearm two times."

The man running toward the officers was shot once in the leg and taken to the hospital. Police found no gun on him after the incident, Monahan said.

Police had come to Lenox Road after multiple 911 calls about a gunman on the street, Monahan said.

On their way to the address from the calls, they saw a man holding a gun in front of another house down the block, Monahan said. The man did not match the description of the man in the 911 calls, but police asked him to drop the gun and he complied.

(NYPD). The gun recovered from the arrest of the first man, according to police.

Monahan said it is believed the suspect with the gun and the man who was shot — who matched the description from the 911 calls — were in a dispute before the confrontation with police.

Police involved in the confrontation were taken to the hospital for observation, he said.

"We have excellent body worn camera footage of the incident, which I reviewed," Monahan said.
