School Raising $100K For Boy Shot In Crown Heights Street
A Brooklyn school is raising funds for Jayden Grant, the 11-year-old shot in the chest the night before his fifth grade graduation.
CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN — An 11-year-old boy shot by a Crown Heights gunman the night before his fifth grade graduation may be permanently paralyzed, and his school is rallying to help pay his medical bills, according to police and reports.
Jayden Grant, 11, took a bullet to the chest when Angel Eaddy, 27, whipped out a gun and began shooting Thursday evening on the corner of Lincoln Place and Schenectady Avenue, police and prosecutors said.
Jayden spent the night in surgery at Kings County Hospital, according to police, but his grandmother Bessie Watson-Grant, 53, told the Daily News he might never regain use of his legs.

“As of right now, they say he might not walk,” she reportedly said “We are still praying that this doesn’t happen, that he might be able to get some sensation.”
Jayden was getting a haircut for his graduation ceremony the next day at the New Bridges Elementary P.S. 532 on Schenectady Avenue and Eastern Parkway, according to a GoFundMe posted by the PTA.

"We want to come together as a school community to support him and his family with whatever they need," wrote organizer Biz Sperduto. "He faces a long and challenging recovery ahead."
The campaign had raised more than $25,000 as of Monday afternoon with more than 400 donors pitching in to help cover Jayden's medical bills.
"I knew this young man and his entire family," wrote donor Emily Leitch. "Hoping and praying for a speedy recovery to see him as one of our future leaders in this world."
"Healing thoughts to your sweet grandson Bessie," added donor Giovanna Conklin. "Stay strong kiddo."
NYPD Chief Jeffrey Maddrey said police a suspect in custody Thursday night and Eaddy was arrested the following afternoon, court records show. The suspected gunman was arraigned on attempted murder and assault charges in Brooklyn Criminal Court Saturday and held on $500,000 bail.
Patch was not immediately able to reach Eaddy's attorney, Darius Wadia of Brooklyn Defender Services, for comment.
