Spike Lee Joins Brooklyn George Floyd Protest: Report

The famed filmmaker and Brooklynite was spotted riding his bike among protesters near the Barclays Center on Sunday.

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK — Mookie is still doing the right thing.

Eagle-eyed George Floyd protesters on Sunday noticed Spike Lee — famed filmmaker and Brooklynite — joined their march against police brutality outside the Barclays Center on Sunday, the New York Post first reported.

Lee rode a bicycle among the protesters and donned, of course, a New York Knicks jersey, the Post reported.

"Fort Greene, Baby! Fort Greene! Gotta represent," he said, according to the Post.

Lee shot to fame with his film "Do The Right Thing," which told the story of racial tensions in Bed-Stuy during a hot summer day. He directed and portrayed the character of "Mookie," who works at a pizzeria in the middle of neighborhood conflict.

At one point in the movie, a police officer places a black man in a choke hold, killing him.

George Floyd, a black Minneapolis man, died May 25 after a Minneapolis police officer drove a knee into his neck for nearly nine minutes. The officer — Derek Chauvin — faces a second-degree murder charge and three other cops who witnessed it have been charged with aiding and abetting.
