Far Rockaway Boy, 7, Dies After Driver Knocks Him Into School Bus

A van knocked into the 7-year-old Far Rockaway boy, pinning him to the back of a school bus, police said.

FAR ROCKAWAY, QUEENS — A 7-year-old boy died after a driver knocked into him and pinned him against a school bus in Far Rockaway on Wednesday, authorities said.

Far Rockaway resident Cameron Brown was crossing Gipson Street by Healy Avenue just before 3 p.m. when a van pinned him against the back of a parked school bus, knocking him unconscious, police said.

Emergency responders rushed the boy in critical condition to St. John's Episcopal Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.

The driver of the red Ford van, a 22-year-old man, stayed on the scene, according to police. The NYPD's Highway Patrol Collision Investigation Squad is investigating.

P.S. 43, where Brown was a student, will have grief counselors on hand Thursday, CBS New York reported.

"I’m heartbroken by this tragic loss of one of our children, and share my condolences with the family and school community," Schools Chancellor Richard A. Carranza said in a statement. "We will have crisis counseling available to students and staff for as long as it is needed."
