RIVERHEAD, NY — After Tropical Storm Isaias slammed Riverhead, leaving thousands without power and roads strewn with live wires and downed trees, residents spent Wednesday cleaning up the mess left behind.

As of Wednesday morning, there were 2,911 Riverhead PSEG Long Island customers without power, Town Supervisor Yvette Aguiar said. In addition, she said, there were road closures due to downed trees and power lines throughout town, with the largest concentration of damage occurring within Wading River.

During the storm, a dust cloud rose up on Sound Avenue.

"One of the sod farms located on Sound Avenue had removed a section of sod prior to the storm. The dry conditions, mixed with heavy winds produced by the storm, resulted in a huge dust cloud which settled on homes and automobiles throughout Riverhead," Aguiar said.

Thankfully, Aguiar added, Tropical Storm Isaias produced no flooding in Riverhead. "However, due to extraordinary wind damage, a quarter mile stretch of Sound Avenue by County Road 105 remained closed Wednesday for repair work. Additionally, various secondary roads will be closed throughout the day for tree removal and repair of downed electrical wires," the supervisor told Patch.

Aguiar said the town's highway department, along with the building and grounds crews, "are all diligently working to remove trees and debris left in the wake of Isaias."

Her office remained in direct contact with PSEG to help mitigate any emergency arising from the storm, Aguiar said.
